PadGadget’s Flashback Friday: Amiga Games Officially Coming to the App Store This Fall

AMIGA 01

Welcome back to another edition of our weekly retro and classic games column. Flashback Friday means a lot of things to a lot of people. For us, it means games from the early 1980s all the way through to the early 1990s. We love to talk about games from our childhood. Last week, we spotlighted the remake of the Ultima IV classic, Ultima Forever: Quest for the Avatar.

This week, we have a big announcement that will make Amiga fans very happy. According to a recent press announcement, “Amiga Games will customize its classic Amiga titles for Apple’s iOS, including iPhone, iPod Touch, and iPad devices, and will support Apple’s upcoming iOS 7 game controllers. Amiga Games plans to release its titles for iOS in time for the 2013 holiday season.”

Amiga launched in 1985 as a high-end personal computer that was known for its outstanding graphics and audio abilities. It was the most popular 16-bit computer of its time. By 1989, the computer was distributing games directly for the Amiga system. Games included Batman, F/A-18 Inceptor, Rainbow Island, Shadow of the Beast, and more.

The announcement did not give any hint as to what games would be made available on iOS. The App Store already houses a number of classic Amiga Games like Warlords Classic, Another World, Simon the Sorcerer, and Transport Tycoon. As new Amiga titles launch in the App Store, we will be sure to let you know on Flashback Friday.
